Week 5 Social

Hello Everyone,

This Thursday, we will have our first social of the term and also the first social of the new committee. The plan is to meet in the Courtyard for a few drinks and maybe dinner (food is served until 8pm). Then we will play a game of Assassins on campus. We have a polaroid camera and there will be various challenges and a little prize for the winner. I will give you more details and instructions in the Courtyard but it would be brilliant if you could all dress in black to make the game easier.
Please invite yourselves to the Facebook group so we have an idea about numbers and bring along friends- the more the merrier!

Looking forward to seeing you all there xxx

Calling Photographers…

Requests for photographers … Photosoc x

Wedding Photography
Would any Photosoc members be willing to be the official photographer at Craig and Hazel's wedding? The wedding is on the 15th October this year and the venue is the York Pavilion Hotel in Fulford.  Contact Craig Johnston for further details on chalk488@btinternet.com

Big D
'I am writing on behalf of the Big D organising committee 2010 to ask you to take some photos in the summer term at Big D. We would like some photos taken of the event for promotional purposes, and were wondering if any of you would be interested? We would only need a couple of people. It promises to be a really good event both during the day and the evening, so I'm sure you'd have a great time there anyway!' Contact Luke Sandford on lds503@york.ac.uk

Elections tonight!

Hi Everyone,

2 things: Elections tonight, and Joe’s session on Thursday!

Tonight we have our Annual General Meeting and its also time for electing the new committee! :) This will take place at 7.30pm in D/056.

Elections: The following positions are open

3 Signatory Positions : These MUST be filled : They are the steering power of the society, and will direct it for the year.

Chair: Responsible for the daily functioning of the society, accountable for its members.

Vice Chair: Responsible for aiding the chair in the overall function of the society.

Treasurer: Responsible for the finance of the society, planning, submitting and running the budget.

Other Positions:

Darkroom Officer: Responsible for the maintenance of darkroom and tuition of techniques

Film/Digital Officer: Responsible for their respective fields

Equipment Officer: Responsible for the acquisition of equipment and its storage and hire

Webmaster: Responsible for running the website, updating it regularly along with the facebook page.

Social Secretary: Responsible for making us all go out every once in a while and have a good time !

Communication Officer: Liaise with other societies, organisations, to organise talks/workshops/events.

Ordinary Member: Responsible for helping out the other members

If you are interested in helping in any other way, and would like to create a position for that, just email us, or turn up for the AGM and ask !

Reasons Why You Should Run For A Position:

1) It’s a great experience and tons of fun !

2) Looks good on your C.V-Build a diverse skill set.

3) You get to help the society grow in a chosen direction, this could be something that you are otherwise interested in but can now take up more seriously if you like!

Any member of the society can stand for Election! If you aren’t a member, you can always sign up at the AGM/Elections.

Remember: No committee members means no PhotoSoc!

Even if you are not thinking of running for the election please come to our AGM as we need a certain percentage of our members to vote. So come select your new committee :)

Thursday

Also, for those of you that didn’t get the message, this Thursday Joe is holding another session:

For all of those who turned up to the last session feel free to switch off for a second or two, but for everyone else: PHOTOSHOP PROJECTS.

What I’m asking you to do is grab a picture that you’ve taken recently (or take one especially for the workshop, should you want to), and apply some of the techniques you’ve learned from it this term. The original idea was to give you a set of intructions and let you generate something based on those, but time is running short now (sorry again) and I’m sure this is easier for all involved. Bring along a before and after comparison picture of what you’ve done and we’ll have a show and tell session! I won’t be teaching, and I won’t be bringing my own stuff, so you must bring something to show off!

Here are some links to get you started, but feel free to search around for something else should you wish to:

We’ll be in G/169 at 8:00pm on Thursday. I look forward to seeing you there.

Good luck, and happy ‘shopping!

Joe Beaver

So, see you all tonight, and bring your images along on Thursday!
